  7.     No, MELBA MOORE did not write Lift Every Voice and Sing,
  8. though she's often asked if she did. Her new version of the
  9. black national anthem could make it a hit for the first time
  10. since it was co-written in 1900 by black poet James Weldon
  11. Johnson. "For black kids who don't know their history," says
  12. Moore, who sang the hymn in a Washington school last week after
  13. a meeting with black Congressmen, "the song provides a bond."
  14. Profits from the song -- the first single from her new album,
  15. Soul Exposed -- will go to charity.
